The Boat

On the hook in Liberty Bay, Wa.

Polaris is a 39-foot Nauticat sloop with a removable forestay. True to most Nauticats, she has a pilothouse, which means she keeps us warm and comfy enough to sail year-round in Puget Sound. That’s a big reason why we got her.

She looks pretty good from behind, too!

Unlike most Nauticats, Polaris has a traditional sailboat design and is not a motorsailer. That means we can sail her just fine without running the engine—provided we have wind, of course!

Tacking across Puget Sound on a recent blustery day.

We purchased her in April 2019 with the belief that we had found the right boat to power our dream of sailing to Alaska … and beyond.
