Gotta love the free pickings left by the marina dumpster. Anyone need a bunch of dockline? Please get it before my husband grabs yet a other freebie that we don't need!
Just in case you think I've never underestimated the currents and tides of #pugetsound, this will show that I still have plenty to learn:
Puget Sound's tides and currents are no joke. Used wisely, they can boost your speed over ground a lot (link in bio). Ignore them and they can really bite you in the 🍑.
A week and two gallons of bottom paint later, s/v Polaris is back in the water. Hooray!
I love walking around the boat yard at the Port of Port Townsend. There are so many boats: massive power boats and sailboats, big, old wooden fishing boats, and of course tons of smaller boats like ours, each with a crew working on them. It's pretty cool to think about how much knowledge is needed to build, service and repair boats/ships. As C and I continue to develop our knowledge base to be more self-sufficient with our boat, I long to be a fly on the proverbial wall and learn from these skilled workers.
We have a nice list of boat to-dos to tackle in the coming weeks. First up: Bottom paint! Polaris is overdue for it, so glad we are getting it done now. It is so weird seeing our boat out of the water, though!
